Searching for apps
Once you have created you Apple ID you can download apps to your iPad. To search for an app, touch the App Store button. This may be located at the bottom of your screen or it may be on one of the pages. To find a specific app, touch the bar at the top of the screen where you will find a small magnifying glass symbol and the word search. Your on screen keyboard should appear and you can type in the name of the app you would like to purchase. Once you enter the name of the app then press the blue Search button on the keyboard. All the apps that fit your search criteria will be listed, the most relevant being at the beginning of the list.
Understanding app options
Many of the apps might look the same, here are some gidelines for selecting the correct one:
- Lite - this is not the full version of the app. There will be some kind of limitation on the use of the app, be it the duration of time it can be used, the amount of programming that can be done, or the features that can be accessed
- In-App-Purchase - similar to the Lite version, you can download and use the app but some features require an additional purchase for use.
- Update - the blue box to the right of the name of the app may say Update, this means that the app is already installed on your device up that updated software is available
- Get - the blue box to the right of the name of the app may say Get, this means that the app can be downloaded for free
- $some indicated amount - the blue box to the right of the name of the app may have a price, this is how much must be paid to download the app
Purchasing apps
To purchase an app, simply touch "buy." A box will appear that requests your Apple ID password. If you have linked your Apple ID with a payment method, your account will automatically be charges when you enter your Apple ID. Once your Apple ID has been confirmed, the app will begin to download.
App codes
You may have been provided with a code allowing you to download an app. To use this code, when you are in the Home page of the Apple Store, scrol down the the very bottom of the page where you will see three buttons: "Apple ID: your apple ID email", "Redeem" and "Send Gift", touch "Redeem". Enter in your Apple ID. If you received your code in the form of a gift card you can use your iPad's camera to take a picture; otherwise, you can enter it manually. Touch the option you wish to use. To enter your code manually, touch "You can also enter your code manually" and the keyboard will appear. Enter your code exactily as it appears and touch "return" on the keyboard. Next, touch Redeem at the top right hand corner of the text box. Your program should start to download.
